FILM: Skyline

Universal has released the trailer for the new alien invasion film, Skyline. It stars Donald Faison from Scrubs, Eric Balfour from 24, and Brittany Daniel from Club Dread. Largely flying under the radar until this year’s Comic-Con, Skyline tells a Cloverfield-meets-Independence Day-style story of aliens coming to earth but instead of becoming galaxy buddies they start beaming up swathes of people from the surface of the planet with giant, powerful tractor beams from their ships. Cool! Thanks Aliens!

Directors Colin and Greg Strause (Alien vs. Predator: Requiem) scraped together the funding for the movie largely by themselves, and used the VFX company they run, Hydraulx (Avatar, Iron Man 2, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and 300), to create the special effects.

Judging by this first teaser trailer; visually it looks pretty stunning especially the money shot of the ship pulling in masses of earthlings. How Donald Faison goes in a more serious role will be interesting as I think he will always be Turk from Scrubs.

Skyline probably wont be featuring come award season but it looks a bit of fun.
