FILM: Star Wars Saga To Be Released In 3D

Thursday , 30 Sep 2010

Director George Lucas has announced that his beloved Star Wars saga will be released in 3D beginning 2012.

The films will be released starting with Episode 1 The Phantom Menace, and if successful the five remaining films will follow at a rate of one per year.  The films are planned to all have a cinematic release.

George Lucas' Industrial Light and Magic special effects shop will manage the 3D conversion, according to the statement posted on the official "Star Wars" website.

"Getting good results on a stereo conversion is a matter of taking the time and getting it right," ILM visual effects supervisor John Knoll said.

"It is not something that you can rush if you want to expect good results. For 'Star Wars' we will take our time, applying everything we know both aesthetically and technically to bring audiences a fantastic new 'Star Wars' experience."

With a 3D release being talked about for years, we suspect James Cameron's release of Avatar has surely prompted Lucas into action.

The Saga is also expecting a full blu-ray release next year.
