FILM: Anchorman Stars Too Costly For Sequel
Sunday , 08 Aug 2010

Anchorman's lead actor, Will Ferrell has said that Anchorman 2 was shelved because of the potential actors' high salary expectations. Ferrell starred as Ron Burgundy in the film, and has only recently spoken publicly for the first time of his frustration at the shelving of a sequel for the 2004 comedy, citing financial restrictions. It was admitted that the actors' salaries were one of the reasons the film couldn't be made on a small budget.
"We were basically begged to for years and years, like, 'Would you guys ever do a sequel? Would you ever do a sequel?' We warmed up to the idea and we were like, 'That could actually be a lot of fun.' And we got everyone together and then they were basically like, 'Great! We can't believe it! But you have to do it for this amount.' And we were like, 'Oh, well there’s no way we can do it for that.' Right now the ball is in their court."
In April this year Ferrell's writing partner Adam McKay broke the news via twitter to fans that an Anchorman sequel was off the table; "So bummed. Paramount basically passed on Anchorman 2. Even after we cut our budget down. We tried." McKay also unveiled ideas about the shelved sequel, confirming: "It was a musical. We were going to do four months on Broadway and then jump right into filming."
