INTERVIEW: Catlin Smith On GrassRoots Festival
Tuesday , 15 Feb 2011
Are you looking forward to playing the Grassroots festival?
Hugely. This is my biggest gigging opportunity to date. (Though I played Sweetwaters at the same venue some years back....... we didn't get paid!
Do you ever get nervous before performing?
To put it mildly! I have to be very close to a toilet at all times. Even though I coach singers on overcoming nerves, they really have a life of their own. And, some people say, if shows you care about what you're doing.
How do you feel about the other musicians on the Grassroots line up?
I am massively respectful of Immogen Heap, Grace Jones, Elvis Costello. As songwriters and performers, they are beyond compare! I'm thrilled that there is such a good representation of wonderful local talent too. Easter is when atleast three other Jazz festivals take place. I hope Grassroots continues as a musical institution and annual event in Aotearoa.
What is your favourite album of all time?
Either Joni Mitchell's 'Hissing of summer Lawns' or John Martyn's 'Solid Air'
What does the future hold for you?
Touring my new solo album 'You have reached your destination', Nationally and internationally and enjoying every moment of the miraculous unfolding of the Magnificent Plan
If you were a superhero, what would your super power be and why?
Unconditional Love Woman - I'd have the ability to unconditionally love every person and creature on the planet! Woof! Talk about satisfying.....
