INTERVIEW: The Cast Of Jackass 3D
Tuesday , 08 Feb 2011

To celebrate the release of Jackass 3D on DVD, we have an interview with the cast. Don't forget that you can win a copy of Jackass 3D on DVD here.
An important question to start with. How many testicles were damaged in the making of Jackass 3D?
Jason: All of our balls got hurt. There's nine dudes with a combined 17 testicles and we can honestly say all 17 testicles were hurt in the making of Jackass 3D.
Ryan: After so many years you don't dwell on getting hurt because if you do, you would probably quit and no longer want to film. When you do get hurt you just get up and walk it off.
Wait a second. Nine guys. 17 testicles? Did someone lose a testicle?
Dave: I actually only have one testicle - true story - and I'm happy to report it did not get injured.
Dave, you only have one testicle?
Dave: Yes. I lost a testicle from a snowboarding accident a few years back.
Ouch. Why would you agree to do the Jackass films knowing you only have one testicle that might get damaged?
Dave: Good question (laughs). I don't know.
Whenever a movie is made the director is forced to cut scenes and I imagine some stunts in Jackass 3D were left on the cutting room floor for whatever reason. Was that the case? Was there a stunt you endured that didn't make it in?
Jason: Yeah there was a lot of wasted pain.
Dave: The Hall of Balls stunt. Remember that? I hit my head on that doorway. I had a terrible concussion.
Jason: Oh yeah. Dave got smashed on that. He hit the door jam.
Dave: It was the worst concussion, but the scene will probably never see the light of day.
Considering you guys go through so much physical pain, what's your life expectancy?
Ryan: I think 97 years.
Jason: He (Ryan) used to say little people would die at 30 but I told him I was going to outlive him and piss on his grave.
Ryan: Did you say you'll piss on my gravy?
Jason: Your grave.
Ryan: Oh that's a relief. I thought you said you'll piss on my gravy. I was going to be terrified to eat gravy ever again (laughs)
Preston: The level of comedy in this room is just amazing (laughs).
Jackass 3D was obviously shot in 3D with what I hear was the most expensive 3D camera ever made - a camera more sophisticated than the Avatar cameras. Did that make it more difficult for you guys? Did it take longer for the crew to set up the camera?
Ryan: I thought it would take a lot more time to set up the 3D cameras, but those goes were really fast. It didn't really impact the process much. While they were setting up the big cameras we had little cameras and were messing with each other off camera. That's when we really build the camaraderie.
You guys always find a way to terrify Bam Margera with snakes and in Jackass 3D you make him cry with a certain stunt. Is it fun to make Bam cry?
Ryan: When Bam cries it actually hurts me a little bit. Seriously.
Preston: Yeah, the day he was crying in the snake pit was really tough.
Ryan: Yeah. They had to hold me back because they wanted to keep filming. When I eventually went in to get him I had all of these people holding me back.
Preston: None of us were on the side of the set laughing.
Really? I thought you'd be happy considering Bam's trick is to walk up behind you guys when you're not expecting it and hit you with a ferocious punch to the head.
Ryan: We know Bam is missing screws. We don't want to knock the last two out (laughs)
Dave: No. We know snakes are a major phobia for Bam. I think it's funny when someone is physically hurt but not so much when they are emotionally hurt.
That's interesting. I would never have picked that with you guys.
Jason: I like it when Ehren McGehey cries. I could watch that all day.
Dave: That's because he deserves it (laughs).
There's a lot of physical injuries on the Jackass set with broken bones, cuts, bruises and concussions, but what about the internal ailments you suffer when you drink each other's body fluids. Like, there's a scene where Preston is on an exercise machine working out, his sweat is collected and Steve-O drinks it. Does Steve-O get sick?
Jason: Steve-O has an anti-venom against Preston's sweat.
Preston: It's not like my sweat is toxic.
Ryan: The least of our problems is what we drink on set. It's what we drink at the bar after we leave. We are basically pickled anyway. You can put anything in us and it isn't going to hurt us.
Steve-O is sober now. How did that impact your set for Jackass 3D. I hear you had to ban beer on the set.
Dave: Yeah, Steve-O has ruined it for everyone (laughs).
Did you have a secret stash of booze hidden away from him?
Jason: We try but it is kind of hard to have it around set. It is understandable because he is our brother, but it is a bummer.
Will there be a Jackass 4D in the future or a Jackass Smellavision? What's next?
Jason: I think smellavision. Scratch and sniff.
Ryan: Smellavision.
Dave: Yeah, a theatre that pumps in different smells.
Jason: Yeah. Poo and piss smells.
Dave: Nice smells too like flowers.
