IN THIS ISSUE
Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme talking about the new album and the near-death experience that nearly ended his career. Also in this huge Hollywood issue we talk to Ryan Gosling, Tobey Maguire, Leo DiCaprio, Vin Diesel, Seth Rogen, Zach Galifianakis and more, plus Liam Gallagher, The National, P-Money, Airbourne, Alice In Chains, Talib Kweli, MS MR, Deap Vally, KT Tunstall, Phoenix Foundation, original Sugababe Siobhán Donaghy and… the New Kids on the Block…. What the hell?
Is it just me or has this been the most unintentionally hilarious Olympics yet? It seems every day another WTF Olympics moment goes viral, and frankly they’re getting hard to keep up with.

LEONIE'S BLOG: The 2012 Comedy Olympics

Wednesday , 01 Aug 2012

Is it just me or has this been the most unintentionally hilarious Olympics yet? It seems every day another WTF Olympics moment goes viral, and frankly they’re getting hard to keep up with.

So in the name of lols, I feel it’s my civic duty to compile my highlights so far.

1. The Unofficial Indian Team Mascot

When Madhura Nagendra from Bangalore was tasked with escorting the Indian Olympic team to the stadium entrance, it seems the young student decided her 15 minutes weren’t going to stop there. She entered the stadium alongside the flagbearer and waved and smiled her way around the arena. You have to admire the cajones (or raw stupidity) it takes to gate crash the motherf**ing Olympics.

2. “Stick It! Stick It!”

Gymnast Aly Raisman's parents Ricky and Lynn Raisman became overnight sensations when their spectating antics became as entertaining as the events themselves. In the video the pair are shown having simultaneous seizures. Mom suffers from a rare form of Tourettes that makes you sound like Sarah Palin, then Dad climaxes all over the face of the man sitting in front of him.

3. Lord of the Olympic Rings

Reddit user lphmp was enjoying Danny Boyle’s epic opening ceremony when he suddenly felt a sense of deja vu… Click on pic HERE to see the full graphic.

4. Big Mouthed Scot

Scottish comedian Frankie Boyle found himself in hot water this week when he tweeted: “I worry that Rebecca Adlington will have an unfair advantage in the swimming by possessing a dolphin's face.”

The comic had previously come under fire in 2008 after the swimmer won two gold medals in Bejing, when he said on stand-up show Mock The Week that she looked like “someone who’s looking at themselves in the back of a spoon.”

When pressed for an apology he replied:

Neither comment comes close to being the worst thing Frankie Boyle has said about someone. We refer you to Exhibit A (contains NSFW language).

5. London’s Most Helpful Volunteer

The 2012 London Olympics are a time for the British to enjoy the pride and the privilege instilled in them as hosts of this prestigious event. Here a deadpan volunteer with a megaphone releases all the joy inside of her.

6. You Didn’t Have to Cut Us Off

Here we thought the queen was bored shitless at the opening ceremony and wishing she was at home with her feet up watching Coro. Turns out she was actually internalising a really complicated situation in her head. You know, like the political impotence of the British Empire and the diminishing relevance of monarchy in modern society.

7. Secretary’s Bellend

UK Secretary for Culture and Sport nearly takes out a spectator when the end of his bell flies off, prompting #bellend to trend on Twitter.

Un-Olympics-related but still hilarious - here's BBC broadcaster James Naughtie accidentally mispronouncing Jeremy Hunt’s name and nearly choking to death trying not to laugh.

8. Diving Faces.

LOL

9. Quotable Quotes

Some favourites so far:

“I think I saw God in the last 20 metres. He was singing The Final Countdown.” - Canadian Swimmer Julia Wilkinson

“Nobody knows more about mishandled balls than my colleague here." - Commentator during the US vs. Japan Men's Beach Volleyball

“Looking like the Chinese wz just laying' low till it counted! They goin' NINJA....if that's possible.....for a...u no what I mean!” - Samuel L Jackson on Twitter (probably the best Olympic commentator so far)

10. Um…
