NEWS: At The Drive In Announce Reunion

Texan rockers At The Drive In have (sort of) announced (hinted at) a reunion. The band posted a message to Twitter this morning saying

"¡ ATTENTION ! To whom it may concern: AT THE DRIVE-IN will be breaking their 11 year silence THIS STATION IS …NOW…OPERATIONAL."

You can see the same message over at the group's website atdimusic.com.

With members Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López having spent most of the 2000s as The Mars Volta, this announcement will come as a pleasant surprise to the Drive In's ardent fan base, many of whom have been vocal in expressing their preference for the rawer, post-hardcore sound the band delivered to the experimental bombast of the Mars Volta.

Let's hope this includes a tour down under.

IMO, the best album with Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López is The Mars Volta's Deloused In the Comatorium.
And the 2nd-best is At the Drive-In's Relationship of Command.
Then they kinda go tit-for-tat from there.

If the members from the two bands could ever successfully fuse the best of both worlds - which *might* be a possibility with this new announcement - then we could have something special. But I sadly suspect it will be another half-hearted and ill-advised money-spinning reunion.
