NEWS: Base FM Announce Shake & Bake In Ponsonby

Tuesday , 15 Feb 2011

Nestled amongst the trees of Ponsonby’s Western Park, the Base FM Shake & Bake is a free, community focused festival for the entire family.

With market stalls, activities, live art and music, Shake & Bake is about interacting with the people in you neighborhood. Witness the art unfold as the Cut Collective & friends stencil & graff throughout the day, while the Monster Energy half-pipe will feature some of the best pro-skaters in the country.

Supporting both emerging & established artists, the DJs & live bands represents the two dominant sounds of Base FM: Hip Hop & Reggae.

KORU LICKS ALLSTARS - Inspired to form a band after witnessing the Electric Wire Hustle appearance at Shake09, Koru Licks combine live instrumentation with the MPC, resulting in a hybrid of live jazz/funk grooves and Hip Hop production.  Recruiting extra members including the Kolab Horn section, they’ve accepted the challenge of providing the backing to some of AKs finest underground HipHop MCs: Homebrew Crew, Team Dynamite, Kolab, Nothing To Nobody, Eddie Numbers, Mikey Rockwell, Shine Forum, Oui Groove, The Unscene, Jennifer Zea, J-Dubs, MC Bjorn & Tyra Hammond (Opensouls).

RIDDIM CENTRAL PRODUCTIONS Showcase - with a string of top-knotch releases due later in the year, this reggae showcase features the 6-piece band Iron Hammers, providing the heavy riddims for Silva Emcee, Solomonix & Jah Red Lion (Chile).

DUB TERMINATOR  - from Jamaica to Auckland, this local producer / musician is putting the Dub back into Dubstep. The 2010 release “Soul Island Vol 1” featured some of the greatest reggae vocalists from around the world, and has won over audiences with regular tours with Rhombus In Dub.

Hosting / toasting the proceedings will be J-DUBS who has worked with Sunshine Soundsystem, Shapeshifter & Pacific Heights. As always, DJ sets from the Base crew round at the lineup: Tommy Flowers, Printor, SP23 and Dylan C.
