NEWS: Breaking Benjamin Frontman Fires Band Members
Thursday , 04 Aug 2011
Lead singer of American rock band Breaking Benjamin, Benjamin Burley, has fired guitarist Aaron Fincke and bassist Mark Klepaski via email after what Burley called an unauthorised remix of one of the band’s more popular songs, ‘Blow Me Away’.
Burley is seeking $25,000 (US) for damages and the exclusive right to the Breaking Benjamin name after learning that Fincke and Klepaski struck a deal with Hollywood Records to allow the release of the remix, along with an album of rarities and outtakes.
Although the pair deny the claims laid against them, Burley intends to hire new band mates and continue performing under the name Breaking Benjamin.
Burley’s attorney, Brian Chaplan, has stated "the relationship between Mr Burnley and the two other members of the band has ended. Mr Burnley intends on moving forward using the name Breaking Benjamin and the band will continue. It just won't continue in its prior configuration. He's not retiring."
Hollywood Records is preparing to release Shallow Bay: The Best of Breaking Benjamin on August 16, under the impression that it was put together "with the awareness of all of the members of Breaking Benjamin".
Although Burley is adamant that this went ahead without his consent, he has not yet stated as to whether he intends on stopping the release or not.
