NEWS: Bret McKenzie Nominated For Best Original Song At Oscars
Tuesday , 25 Jan 2011
Flight of the Conchords’ Bret McKenzie is in a two horse race for the Best Original Song Oscar for his song 'Man or Muppet' from the The Muppets.
'Man or Muppet' will face off against 'Real in Rio', by Brazil’s Sergio Mendes and Carlinhos Brown, from the animated movie Rio. Listen to both tracks below.
Due to Oscar voting rules, both Elton John ('Hello Hello' from Gnomeo & Juliet) and Madonna ('Masterpiece' from WE) were uneligible for nominations for their tracks despite being the front runners at last weeks Golden Globe Awards.
Also of note was the snubbing of tracks by heavyweight performers and songwriters Mary J. Blige’s 'Living Proof' (The Help), Elvis Costello’s 'Sparkling Day' (One Day) and Chris Cornell's 'The Keeper' (Machine Gun Preacher), Zoey Deschanel’s 'So Long' (Winnie the Pooh) and will.i.am’s 'Hot Wings' (Rio) all missing out on a nomination.
The Best Original Song Oscar will be decided at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles on February 26.
