NEWS: Coldplay To Release New Single 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall' This Week

Wednesday , 01 Jun 2011

The 'Violet Hill' band announced today they will release the first single from the follow up to 2008's Viva La Vida album on Friday.

After posting three videos which showed lyrics from the song as words written on blackboards, an entry on the band's official twitter read: "Enough teasing... we have a new song called 'Every Teardrop is a Waterfall'. Hear it on Friday (sic)".

The band also posted a link to the lyrics of the track and the album artwork, which features the track title imposed over a close up of a wall sprayed with brightly coloured graffiti.

Part of the lyrics read: "I turn the music up, I got my records on / from underneath the rubble sing a rebel song / don't want to see another generation drop / I'd rather be a comma than a full stop".

Last year, while the band were still working on the album, lead singer Chris Martin said 'Every Teardrop is a Waterfall' was likely to be its closing track. He also said guitarist Jonny Buckland's influence is particularly prominent on this album, their fifth, and the whole band - which also includes Guy Berriman and Will Champion - were "fired up".

Speaking of another new track, Chris explained:  "'Hurts Like Heaven' is all Jonny. It only has two chords. The songs are group-y, its guitar-y. Johnny is coming out of his cocoon. We're just trying some risky things. We're hungry and very fired up. In five years we'll be in our late 30s. You have to have your best work done by then".

'Every Teardrop is a Waterfall' will be available digitally on Friday 3rd June at midday British Summertime, except in the UK where it will be released at midnight the following day.
