NEWS: Ex Fan Wants To Pay Weezer $10m To Breakup
Thursday , 07 Oct 2010A disappointed fan of Weezer has started an online campaign to see the band pack it in for good.
The campaign which can be found at thepoint.com is attempting to raise $10 million with the hope of using it to entice the Rivers Cuomo-led outfit into retirement.
The man behind the call to action, James Burns, explains "Every year, Rivers Cuomo swears that he’s changed, and that their new album is the best thing that he’s done since 'Pinkerton', and what happens? Another pile of crap like 'Beverly Hills' or 'I’m Your Daddy'."
"This is an abusive relationship, and it needs to stop now. I am tired of my friends being disappointed year after year. I am tired of endless whimsical cutesy album covers and music videos."
He believes that if all the fans who purchased 'Pinkteron' (852,000) donated $12 each to the cause, they can say farewell to Rivers Cuomo and company forever.
Fans can be thankful as so far his efforts have only raised $136 USD.
[Update] Weezer's drummer Patrick Wilson has now taken to Twitter and offered a counter deal to the organiser saying "If they can make it $20 million we'll do the 'deluxe breakup'".
