NEWS: Foo Fighters Return With New Single 'Rope'

Tuesday , 01 Mar 2011

The Foo Fighters
are back their first single, 'Rope', from the band's highly anticipated new album
‘Wasting Light’, due out on April 12.

'Rope' will be the first single from 'Wasting Light', and is available as a digital single from today onwards.

‘Wasting Light’ will mark the Foo Fighters official follow-up to 2007's 'Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace,' and will bring an end to the bands lengthy hiatus. Recorded on analog tape at lead singer Dave Grohl's home studio in Los Angeles, ‘Wasting Light’ was produced by legendary producer Butch Vig, who put together Nirvana's classic 1991 album, 'Nevermind'.

Grohl had previously said that he wanted Vig to work on the album in commemoration of 'Nevermind''s 20th anniversary. The album also features original member Pat Smear on each and every track plus a guest appearance from former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic on a track titled, 'I Should Have Known'. Husker Du/Sugar frontman Bob Mould also makes an appearance on a track titled 'Dear Rosemary.'

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Grohl described the new record as arguably the bands "heaviest album yet".

The band have also announced plans to release a career-spanning feature length documentary, directed by Academy Award winning filmmaker James Moll. The documentary will go as far back as Grohl's time in Nirvana and through to the making of 'Wasting Light'. Grohl explains, “Sixteen years and seven studio albums later, with the help of Academy Award winning director James Moll, we're finally able to tell the story of how that one demo cassette turned into the band that we are today. This is our side of the story. From the first rehearsal, to the completion of our new album, it's all there."

Looks like 2011 is shaping up to be a year full of Foo Fighters goodness.

‘Wasting Light’ is out on April 11, and first single 'Rope' is out today.
