NEWS: Green Day Singer Joins Broadway's American Idiot
Monday , 27 Sep 2010Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong will briefly be joining the cast of Broadway musical "American Idiot," the show is a musical rendition of the band's 2004 Grammy Award-winning album.
According to The Associated Press the show’s producers announced Sunday that Armstrong will take over a pivotal role that will see himself playing the persuasive drug dealer St. Jimmy for eight performances from tomorrow (27th September) through to next Friday (8th October) before leaving town to kick off his band’s South American tour.
The musical was composed and co-written by Armstrong, it follows an antihero who flees a deadening suburbia and descends into sex, drugs and fierce guitar playing in his quest to find himself in the big city.
Armstrong will be filling in temporarily for actor Tony Vincent who will take a short leave for a personal family matter.
American Idiot was first introduced on Broadway in March 2010 and has since grossed over $18 million.
