NEWS: Lil Wayne Moved To Solitary Confinement
Wednesday , 06 Oct 2010Grammy Award winning rapper Lil Wayne has been punished for being found with contraband while serving his one year sentence in New York's Rikers Island jail complex.
Officially called 'punitive segregation', Wayne will finish off his last month behind bars solo, Correction Department officials said it's his punishment for stashing a charger and headphones for a digital music player in his cell earlier this year.
Lil Wayne will now be confined to his new cell 23 hours a day, with for exceptions visitors and showers, instead of being allowed to walk about and mingle with other inmates during the day. All of his meals will be served to him in his cell and he won't get to socialise even during his hour a day of recreation. TV will also be banned and phone calls limited from normally one per day to one call per week.
Officials said the headphones and charger were found tucked in a potato chip bag in a garbage can in the rapper's cell earlier this year, and later the music player turned up in a nearby cell.
As inmates are only allowed to listen to music on radios and headphones sold at the jail commissary, the items were deemed contraband.
Lil Wayne is still expected to be released November 4.
