NEWS: Morrissey Covers Lou Reed At Glastonbury
Monday , 27 Jun 2011
Morrissey covered Lou Reed’s ‘Satellite of Love’ during his Glastonbury performance. Watch the performance below.
The flamboyant singer’s set on the Pyramid stage also included five songs by his former band The Smiths, including ‘There is a Light That Never Goes Out’, ‘People Are The Same Everywhere’ and ‘Meat is Murder’.
Before the latter track he spoke to the crowd about a recent passing of a British government bill to ban the use of wild animals in circuses, saying the Prime Minister had been against it. He said: "David Cameron tried to stop it being passed - what a silly twit”.
Morrissey also mentioned the night’s headliners, U2, saying: “I'll sing as fast as I can, I know you're all waiting for U2".
Despite playing at the same time as Radiohead’s secret show and it raining, Morrissey drew a sizeable crowd, and his set was well received. However, his backing band did come in for some flak, with comedian Simon Blackwell tweeting: “In their identical polo-shirt and slacks uniform, Morrissey's band do look a bit like they work in a garden centre”.
