NEWS: Bon Iver Set To Release New Album in June

Friday , 25 Mar 2011

Bon Iver
frontman Justin Vernon has revealed a number of details about the folk group's upcoming second album due for release in June.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Vernon described the long-awaited follow-up to 2007's For Emma, Forever Ago will be ten tracks in length with each song representing a place, including 'Perth', 'Minnesota Wisconsin' and 'Beth/Rest'.

On writing the new album Vernon told Rolling Stone that in order to write the album he needed to re-learn how to write music. "Somewhere along the line I forgot how to write songs," he said. "I couldn’t do it anymore with a guitar. It wasn't happening." He added, "I brought in a lot of people to change my voice - not my singing voice but my role as the author of this band, this project."

Having written For Emma, Forever Ago alone in an isolated cabin in Wisconsin, this time round Vernon assembled a team of musicians for the second album including saxophonist Colin Stetson, who has recorded with Arcade Fire and Tom Waits, as well as Linda Rondstadt collaborator Greg Leisz.

Vernon was last heard on Kanye West's 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy'.

Here's a classic Bon Iver performance on Later! With Jools Hoolland.
