NEWS: NZ International Film Festival

Friday , 25 Jun 2010

The New Zealand International Film Festival is a national event extending the cinematic options of audiences and filmmakers throughout New Zealand. A programme of between 150-170 features is presented in Auckland and Wellington but has recently travelled to twelve further centers including Christchurch, Dunedin, Gisborne, Greymouth, Hamilton, Kerikeri, Masterton, Nelson, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Tauranga, and Whangarei.  The consolidation of several separately evolved Festivals into a single event known as The New Zealand International Film Festival occurred for the first time in 2009.

The New Zealand International Film Festival is the longstanding highlight of the New Zealand arts calendar, showcasing the best in contemporary and retrospective cinema hand-picked from the international film festival circuit and New Zealand.

This year's close attention to a vast array of international cinema means there are more than enough movies to stimulate, provoke and entertain any audience. Director Bill Gosden has noticed that digital film making has clearly hit its stride and as a result the 2010 program is outstanding.

The NZ international film festival focuses less on world domination and more on giving the film makers and their films the attention they deserve. It takes on the essential role of showcasing a wide range of films destined for 'art-house' success and ensures to shine light on others that deserve to be. This makes the program a large and energizing one in order to ensure that no film goes unscreened.

The different 'art-house' venues offer a unique viewing experience to accompany the individuality of the films being screened.

Looking forward to seeing Four Lions and Wound at this festival. It's a shame that New Zealand cinemas don't show films like this all year round.
