NEWS: Plan B Considers Giving Away Next Album For Free

Friday , 12 Nov 2010

Plan B is considering giving away his next album, which will be a hip-hop record, for free.

The singer/rapper, real name Ben Drew, told the Metro.co.uk newspaper that he was not planning a traditional promotional campaign for the album, which earlier this year he said would be named 'The Ballad Of Belmarsh'.

"I might release it for free," he said. "I'm not doing a long campaign for this one."

Drew's 2006 debut album 'Who Needs Actions When You Got Words' was a hip-hop affair, but he made his mainstream breakthrough this year with soul-pop album 'The Defamation of Strickland Banks'. However, he said he was happy to target his next album to a more niche audience.

"I'm not going to water down my hip-hop," he said. "I'm not going to do what radio want. That's selling out. I want to swear and talk about fucked up shit. If I want to talk about something radio won't play, why should that stop my creativity?"

The album, which is expected to cover the same storyline as 'The Defamation of Strickland Banks', is due out next year.
