Saturday , 02 Oct 2010

According to a survey by PRS for Music, REM's 'Everybody Hurts' has topped a poll of songs that make men cry the most. The group's 1993 single came top of the list, followed by Eric Clapton's 'Tears in Heaven' and Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah'.

"A well-written tear-jerker is one that people can relate to and empathize with," Ellis Rich, PRS for Music's chairman said in a statement. "It is this lyrical connection that can reach deep down emotionally and move even the strongest of men."

Earlier this year, Simon Cowell chose 'Everybody Hurts' as a charity single to raise money for the Haiti earthquake appeal.

Other songs that featured in the Top 10 include U2's 'With or Without You', The Verve's 'The Drugs Don't Work' and Bruce Springsteen's 'Streets of Philadelphia'.

The Top 10 songs that make men cry are as follows:

1. 'Everybody Hurts' (REM)

2. 'Tears in Heaven' (Eric Clapton)

3. 'Hallelujah' (Leonard Cohen)

4. 'Nothing Compares 2 U' (Sinead O'Connor)

5. 'With or Without You' (U2)

6. 'The Drugs Don't Work' (The Verve)

7. 'Candle in the Wind' (Elton John)

8. 'Streets of Philadelphia' (Bruce Springsteen)

9. 'Unchained Melody' (Todd Duncan)

10. 'Angels' (Robbie Williams)
