NEWS: Red Hot Chili Peppers Guitarist Brings Something 'Different' On New Album

Tuesday , 16 Aug 2011

New Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer brought "something very different" to the band's latest album, I'm With You.

Josh replaced former guitarist John Frusciante in 2008, and bass player Flea thinks as a multi-instrumentalist he brings a very different style to the group.

Speaking to Red Bulletin magazine Flea said: "Josh is an all-around talent - he plays guitar, he sings, he plays drums - so he's a real musical guy. He's the kind of subtle player who creeps up on you rather than wowing you right away, and you sit back and see what he does grow into something gorgeous.  Josh is also a great writer, and he wrote great stuff for this album. So Josh brought something very different for us."

Flea is, however, very complementary of his former bandmate – who left because he didn't want to be in a "big rock band" anymore – saying he thinks he could be "the best guitarist in the world".

He added: "It's a lot different from John. John was a virtuoso-guitar-hero type of player - and probably the best guitarist in the world."

Josh is also yet to tour with the band, but added he isn't worried about how things will work when they start playing live later this month.

Josh said: "It hasn't gotten weird yet, although I haven't really been onstage with them as a member of the band. But being in the studio and writing songs hasn't been weird in the least. How will it be when I step onstage with them? I don't think it's going to be any different."
