Tuesday , 26 Oct 2010

Reggae singer Gregory Isaacs, best known for his 1982 album 'Night Nurse' (recorded at Bob Marley's Tuff Gong studio), has died aged 59.

The Jamaican musician died today (October 25) at his home in London after suffering from lung cancer, reports BBC News.

His wife Linda said, "Gregory was well-loved by everyone, his fans and his family, and he worked really hard to make sure he delivered the music they loved and enjoyed."

Singer Suggs, speaking at the Q Awards in London, paid tribute to Isaacs, who supported his band Madness in concert.

"He was a great reggae artist and also one of the most sartorially elegant stars on the world stage," he said.

Sly and Robbie and Simply Red had a Number 13 single with a cover of the 'Night Nurse' title track in 1997.
