About the lineup
Pendulum
With their high-octane performances and exhilarating sets, Pendulum is set to deliver an unforgettable live performance at this year’s festival. Selling over one million albums worldwide, these Aussies have been smashing the international festival circuit of late and return to New Zealand with their unique mash-up of D&B, electro, alternative rock, metal and more recently dubstep.
Calvin Harris
One of the biggest dance producer/ DJs in the world today, Calvin Harris brings his brand of electro dance and hands-in-the-air anthems to the R&V main stage. With a gold-selling album, massively successful tracks like ‘Ready For the Weekend’, and remixes for everyone from Dizzy Rascal to Kylie Minogue and Cut Copy, this Scotsman has plenty under his kilt.
Cut Copy
Speaking of Cut Copy, these Aussie pioneers of neon-drenched indie pop have built a formidable reputation for their brilliant live sets. Having toured with heavyweights Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand and Daft Punk and played at festivals Lollapolooza and Coachella of late, expect to be taken on a journey of epic sonic proportions.
Grandmaster Flash
Founding father of hip-hop Grandmaster Flash returns to Kiwi shores. The first DJ to lay his hands on vinyl and play the turntables, this American legend helped invent the role of a DJ today.
Yuksek
French electro-house maverick Yuksek makes his first trip downunder complete with energizing house beats, catchy hooks, acid loops and hints of pop, glam and indie.
Netsky
While back after a standout performance at last year’s festival and because we love him, is everyone’s favourite Belgian beatmaker Netsky.
Foreign Beggars
From the UK are Foreign Beggars. Described as changing the face of UK hip hop, their genre-defying range of styles and flavours fuses hip hop, grime, dubstep and more recently dance music.
Busy P
French DJ/producer and owner of Ed Banger Records Busy P returns to R&V after a three-year break.
12th Planet
Incinerating dancefloors with his off axis bears and subsonic frequencies is 12th Planet, one of the founding fathers of American dubstep, and the most in-demand dubstep DJ and producer in LA today.
A.Skillz
Another UK export is turntable extraordinaire A.Skillz. A.Skillz’ incredible deck talents fuse funk, soul and hip-hop with D'n'B, dub-step and breaks, all sliced, mashed and cut together with a unique style of scratching and mixing.
Kids of 88
From closer to home, the Kiwi contingent at this year’s festival includes new wave-electro duo Kids of 88 who’ve been busy winning over fans overseas including celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, and Six60 with their fresh Kiwi fusion of roots, reggae and hip hop.
Rounding out the local flavour are “next big things” in hip hop David Dallas and Homebrew, and pop-darling of the moment Ruby Frost with her arresting voice, theatrical costumes and onstage charisma. And for some of the very best talent the future has to offer, the new Red Bull Music Academy brings a sprawling array of diversity from around the globe.
Stay tuned for news about more R&V artists to be announced late September.
