Thursday , 02 Sep 2010Long renowned as one of New Zealand’s greatest rock bands, Shihad’s 22-year career is being recognised with induction into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame and the New Zealand Herald Legacy Award at the 2010 Vodafone NZ Music Awards.
It’s far from the first time the band has been honoured – they were named Most Promising group at the 1991 Music Awards and has scooped up a stack of Tuis in their 22-year career. Awards include Group of the Year in 1993, International Achievement in 1995 and 2000 and Top Male vocalist in 1995 and 1999.
Their next studio album Ignite is due for release on 20 September 2010. The album has been self produced at SHIHAD’s own studios in Melbourne, and is the follow up to 2008’s #1 album Beautiful Machine.
The first official single from Ignite was the edgy and powerful ‘Sleepeater’ which rocketed to #1 on the NZ Rock Chart and after 12 weeks is still #1. The accompanying music video which was the brain child of celebrated director Sam Peacocke, boasted it’s own website www.sleepeater.co.nz and took on a life of it’s own with over 40,000 visitors since launch. The new single ‘Lead Or Follow’ is currently #10 on the NZ Rock Chart.
