NEWS: Sir Paul McCartney Is Making A Record Of His "Dad's Style Of Music"
Wednesday , 18 May 2011
The 68-year-old former Beatles musician is recording a number of covers of tracks from the pre-rock era which remind him of his father's music taste.
He told RollingStone magazine: "It's my dad's style of music. It's get-home-from-work music. You put it on and get a glass of wine".
The 'Live and Let Die' musician will record the album with an orchestra and will also feature jazz singer Diana Krall and her band on a number of tracks. He also said he has wanted to make an album of covers in this style for a long time, but he felt it would be too close to Rod Stewart's American Songbook collection.
He added: "I've wanted to do that kind of thing forever, since the Beatle days. But then Rod went mad on it. I thought, 'I have to wait so it doesn't look like I'm trying to do a Rod'".
Although Paul won't disclose the tracklisting, he hopes the record will be out by early next year. He added: "They're just songs I admire. I'm trying to steer away from the obvious ones".
The guitarist is also busy writing material for a "heavier rock" album and joked that after having a conversation with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl he might even copy what they did for their latest record and record in his garage.
He said: "It sounds quite wacky, but it keeps it fresh. I love that — you get a crazy idea and go with it. You never know — I may run into a garage to make this other album".
