NEWS: Vampire Weekend's Cover Star Speaks Out About Lawsuit
Thursday , 26 Aug 2010Vampire Weekend's 'Contra' album cover 'star' Ann Kirsten Kennis has spoken out about the $2million lawsuit she has filed against the band, their record label XL Recordings and photographer Tod Brody.
The photograph of Kennis was not only used for the Contra album cover but was also featured in heavy advertising campaigns before the album release and live performances of the band without any permission from the star herself.
In the lawsuit, the former model's lawyer Alan Neigher claimed that New York photographer Tod Brody who Vampire Weekend purchased the image for $5,000 off, did not actually take the shot.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Kennis said, "It's not even like it's a Polaroid before a photo shoot, because the hair's not done, the make-up's not done, the lighting's not done."
Kennis also refuted claims that she should be happy that her picture is being used by Vampire Weekend.
"You start to see interviews from fans of the band, and they are like, 'I would just be glad that my picture was on it.' Well, not really. They are using it for their gain," she said. "Something is wrong here. It's like, don't just use my picture all over the place."
Brody who is also subject of a number of previous fraudulant activity called Kennis' claim absurd and reaffirmed that he took the picture of Kennis in 1983.
