REVIEW: Shihad Play The General Electric At The Powerstation | Shihad | ripitup.co.nz
Last night Shihad played their 1995 album Killjoy live at The Powerstation (so read this review first) and tonight they played their 1999 album The General Electric. This was the last date of the tour of Australia and New Zealand and it seemed quite fitting as the band have a lot of history with The Powestation. Being a Brit and having not seen Shihad live before, I wasn't sure what to expect from tonight. The gig was delayed because of the rugby so the support band The Heavy Metal Ninjas, didn't start until 9.45pm and Shihad weren't on until 11pm. There was a long wait for Shihad to come out once after the stage was setup, there was a lot of excitement and everyone was chanting 'Shihad! Shihad! Shihad!'.

REVIEW: Shihad Play The General Electric At The Powerstation

Sunday , 08 Aug 2010

Last night Shihad played their 1995 album Killjoy live at The Powerstation (so read this review first) and tonight they played their 1999 album The General Electric. This was the last date of the tour of Australia and New Zealand and it seemed quite fitting as the band have a lot of history with The Powerstation.

Shihad! Shihad!'.

Once the band appeared, they wasted no time in hammering through the first few songs of the 13 track album. They were very tight and the sound was excellent. Lead Singer Jon Toogood oozed energy and I still can't believe I got this amazing video of him stage diving into the crowd.

They ended their set with Brightest Star and walked off stage. Would they do an encore? Well they didn't in Christchurch, but after a but of persuasion they did re-emerge tonight to play Interconnector [thanks to Sara  from the Shihad Wiki for naming this one] and La La Land.

I was very impressed. This was a gig not to be missed.

Here is a photo of the aftermath of the tour of New Zealand.

Sorry chap - as a Brit who has lived in NZ for 23 years I have to say you missed the most important part of the gig out completely: THE ENERGY!!! This band explode from the start. They didn't just perform the album, they delivered it all anew, every track was new and shiny, smashed out from the stage to the heaving audience. The ballads "Spacing" and "The Brightest Star" were the sweetest interludes in this tidal wave of musical energy, and Shihad played TIGHT in the old fashioned meaning, I LOVED THIS GIG!! I have seen them at the Powerstation before and they always do well here, but this was a piece of magic. Thank You Shihad!!

Bless your cotton socks, but, my granny could've written a better review. Do your research.

The first song on the encore was Interconnector from the Blue Light Disco EP. It also features on the Pacifier Live album.

The Australian dates are due to happen over the next fortnight, so technically it was only the last night of the New Zealand tour.

Brilliant gigs! Great watching the stage dive again too.
