RIP IT UP RADIO: New Singles Released This WeekFriday , 13 Jul 2012
Here is a round up of some spanking new tunes for you to get your ears around. Merchandise, Paper Plane, Purity Ring, Frank Ocean, Bloc Party, Azealia Banks, Band Of Horses...
Purity Ring - Fineshrine
Electro-pop duo Purity Ring are killing it with this track! They’re trying their luck with the latest “it” genre Witch house – and it works. Fineshrine is Rip It Up’s single of the week... for obvious reasons. Check it out… it’s an amazing song and has an equally as good video clip. Their debut album is set to be released later this month.
Frank Ocean – Sweet Life
Frank Ocean went from “that RNB singer in OFWGKTA” to household name overnight when he released intimate details of his sexuality. And this week he’s back in the media after the release of his new album, Channel Orange. It was hard to pick just one because the whole album is a must have. Sweet Life is a RNB track with soul vocals and an old school feel beat that will get your feet tapping and head bopping.
Azealia Banks – Chips
Azealia released her latest album Fantasea this week. She’s come back with the same heavy beats and smack talking lyrics. Like Frank Ocean, this is another great album and picking just one track was hard to do. Listen to the whole thing when you have a spare minute. Chips is a solid tune off the album. Awesome beat and less in-your-face vocals than you would expect from Banks.
Band Of Horses – Knock Knock
Knock Knock is the debut single from Band of Horses new album - available September 17. If this track is an expectation of what is to come from the album then it should be a good one! The band fits into genres such as “alternative country” and “indie rock” and vocals have been likened to early Neil Young.
Paper Plane – Yes Ma’am
Kiwi-band Paper Plane have released a new tune from their debut album this week. A feel-good, summer sounding tune that everyone should enjoy. Front man, Nathan King, was the lead singer from iconic kiwi band Zed but his new band doesn’t share the same genre of music. Paper Plane are making “honest rock” – think a more up beat, kiwi version of City and Colour.
Bloc Party – Octopus
Indie rock superstars Bloc Party are set to release their fourth album, four, after four years of not releasing any new music (fourception). Octopus is the debut track from this album. It is an easy listen with the same feel-good vibe they had before the break. Fans on the internet are saying that lead singer Kele Okereke sounds more happy and relaxed which has floated on to the whole band. Whatever happened this tune is a must-listen if you like The Cure, The Smiths and Joy Division.
Merchandise – Become What You Are
Post-punk band Merchandise released a six track EP this week - Children of Desire (which has been described as their best work to date). This is a decent rock album and this song is a fine example of what to expect from the other five tracks.
