Metallica
Metallica (pronounced /mɛˈtælɨkə/) is an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1981. Founded when drummer Lars Ulrich posted an advertisement in a local newspaper, Metallica's line up has primarily consisted of Ulrich, rhythm guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield and lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, while going through a number of bassists. Currently, the spot is held by Robert Trujillo.

Christchurch Metallica fans get excited because the band have promised to bring the party for tonight and tomorrow's shows at the CBS Canterbury Arena. "You can call it therapy, you can call it whatever you like. We're there to help, man. We're there to bring the party. We're bringing the metal to Christchurch," said bassist Rob Trujillo.

The promoter for Metallica's New Zealand shows, Michael Coppel, has donated about 300 suite tickets for the student volunteers and emergency services to attend the two sold-out Christchurch concerts next week. 240 of the tickets will go to students who took to the Christchurch streets to help clean up the devastation inflicted by the recent earthquakes. Last week more than 2000 students took to the streets with wheelbarrows and shovels.
