Introducing Devonport band The Earlybirds. They are the first band to be signed to EMI Music under the new regime, and are about to take the country by storm. Managed by NZ music industry patron, James Southgate who brought New Zealand The Feelers and Anika Moa, two of New Zealand’s highest selling artists. The Earlybirds are sure to follow suit! The 5 piece band, lead by front man Filip Kostovich, Jared Aisher on Bass, Sean Patterson on Drums, and Kane Ter Veer and Mike Cannon on guitar, The Earlybirds are quickly gaining a reputation for delivering fast and rollicking melodies which are irresistible to dance to.

The Earlybirds are officially New Zealand rock music’s next big thing! The winners of the Jim Beam Band Search beat 120 other entries to take away the $15,000 prize pack including $5,000 cash, the all-important video grant from NZ On Air, a set on the rock stage at the Homegrown festival and guaranteed airplay on The Rock. The final decision was a tough one with the extremely high caliber of bands in the competition. The Earlybirds rose to the top with a combination of massive public support and strong song writing.

Fresh off the release of their latest single, 'Truth', we caught up with Jared and Kane from The Earlybirds and had a wee chat with the lads.
How did you all meet and form The Earlybirds?
Jared: Me (Jared), Sean and Michael met at high school when we were about 14 and started to jam together at lunchtimes as a kind of hobby during school, basically an adolescent-sounding Led Zeppelin cover band, then after a couple of years taking it more seriously we met Filip and Kane and properly formed The Earlybirds around 4 years ago.
