The xx
The xx are a Mercury Music Prize-winning band from London, England. The band was formed in 2005. The group was originally a four-piece band, that met up at Elliott School, notable for alumni including Hot Chip, Burial and Four Tet. The xx became a trio when their keyboardist Baria Qureshi left the group in late 2009.

The xx have won the coveted Barclaycard Mercury Prize for 2010. The Mercury Prize is an annual award for the best British album, decided exclusively and in secret by a panel of industry judges. It's considered the most credible of the UK's music awards, similar to New Zealand's APRA Silver Scroll (for songwriting) and the Taite Prize (for album of the year).

NEWS: The xx's Jamie Smith Goes Solo

Jamie Smith of british indie group The xx has decided to branch out and release a solo project. The xx have recently become one of UK's top bands winning the coveted Barclaycard Mercury Prize for their debut studio album 'xx'. Smith, who is normally responsible for the bands atmospheric sounds and rhythms via digital samplers and drum machines, is preparing a single titled "Far Nearer" for release in the coming month via Glasgow electronic label Numbers Records.
